The staff at Over The Rainbow Day Nursery are overseen by both the owners of the setting, the manager, who is supported by a deputy manager and also a third in charge to ensure that there is always somebody in authority on the premises.

We feel it is very important  that we have the right team in place in order to provide the best possible care for the children, as such any new members of staff are employed on a 6 month probationary period to ensure that they share our values and are a perfect fit for our “family feel” team.

Over The Rainbow Day Nursery follow a safer recruitment procedure in respect of any prospective employees, which includes an initial interview followed by 2 trial days.
Following this and before appointment 2 references are requested, one being from the most recent employer and an enhanced DBS check is also obtained. All candidates must provide proof of identification and qualification certificates at the interview.

Currently we have a team of 18 childcare practitioners, of which 12 are qualified to Level 3 or above, 2 are qualified to Level 2 and working towards their Level 3 and 2 are currently studying for their Level 2 qualifications. Our remaining 2 members of staff are unqualified but will undertake a childcare qualification supported by us.

We also have 2 cooks, who prepare our meals freshly each day, both have relevant food hygiene qualifications, they have also completed training on allergy awareness.

All of our staff have an enhanced DBS check and our childcare staff have all been trained in paediatric first aid, child protection, prevent duty and radicalisation, FGM, behaviour management, food hygiene and the characteristics of effective learning. We also have a designated safeguarding team, who have received training from the local authority and our staff regularly update their knowledge in respect of safeguarding.

We operate a comprehensive training programme for all staff. Every member of staff that works downstairs has received specific training in the care of 0-2 year old's.

The staffing structure at Over The Rainbow Day Nursery consists of:

  • OWNERS: Responsible for all staff and maintaining the nursery as a whole.
  • MANAGER: Responsible for the overall running of the nursery. The Manager is experienced and qualified in all aspects of childcare holding full NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification as well as a wealth of experience.
  • DEPUTY MANAGER: The Deputy represents the Manager and is a professionally qualified specialist with many years of 'hands on' experience.
  • KEY-WORKERS: Each child is allocated a'key-worker', who takes a special interest in their welfare. The 'keyworker' develops a close relationship with your child in order to help them settle into nursery life. Through observation, record-keeping and assessment they can monitor each child's progress and keep you accurately informed. All staff are trained in First Aid and encouraged to further their experience by attending regular training days in all aspects of childcare.

We aim to bring the loving care and guidance of home life into the nursery, thus catering for the growth and overall development of each individual child.
